The Yuan Magazine “Outstanding Literary Award 2020” Award Ceremony successfully concluded on 15th April 2021 at the SFCCA Multi-Purpose Hall@Level 2. In view of the prevailing safe management measures, the award ceremony was attended by the six finalists of the “Outstanding Literary Award 2020”, SFCCA Council Members, Yuan Magazine Editorial Committee Members, with SFCCA President Mr Tan Aik Hock as the Guest of Honour.
Since the Award began receiving submissions at the end of 2019, the Yuan Magazine Editorial Committee received numerous submissions. Six finalists, namely 《星空下的爱情》by Zhou Xue Yi,《多出来的一程路》by Huang Jia Yi,《林太太家的洋房》by Qi Ya Rong,《爱情诗篇》by Huang Hua,《一片冰心在玉壶》by Sophia Chen and《蝶豆花开》by Li Jing were selected. The judging panel specially invited by Yuan Magazine was made up of Dr Zhang Songjian (School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Nanyang Technological University), Dr Ng Yean Leng (New Era University College, Malaysia), and Mr Giam Meng Tuck (renowned local media personality and Head of Yuan Magazine Editorial Committee). After careful selection by the judges,《一片冰心在玉壶》clinched the “Outstanding Literary Award 2020” with the highest overall score.

Author of the winning submission《一片冰心在玉壶》, Sophia Chen, is currently pursuing a Masters in World History at Tsinghua University. She grew up loving Chinese creative writing and even published a book when she was in high school. In her acceptance speech, Sophia said that the award was a boost of encouragement and she hopes to continue writing in the future.
Introduced by Yuan Magazine in 2016, the “Outstanding Literary Award” is aimed at encouraging local literary talents through different genres of literary works (namely novels, prose/essays, and poetry) set for the year. Finalists’ works will be published on Yuan Magazine, and the winner will be awarded with a medal and a $2,000 cash prize.
The “Outstanding Literary Award 2021” is now open for submission. All are welcome to contribute their prose/ essays. Please refer to the poster below for more details:
