The annual popular event Dragon Boat Festival Carnival was held again this year in Toa Payoh HDB Hub Mall Square on Sunday 14th June 2015. The event began at 3pm and ended at 9pm with the prize giving ceremony. Minister for Defence, Dr Ng Eng Hen, was the Guest-of-Honour for the event.

Dragon Boat Festival, an important Chinese tradition, is widely celebrated in Singapore by both Chinese and non-Chinese.  The theme for this year’s carnival has brought an afternoon of Kampong nostalgia to the public who were at the HDB Hub Mall Square. We have gathered different ethnic groups to showcase their slowly diminishing traditional trades, consisting of Chinese Lantern making, Malay Songkok making and Indian Snake Charming. Members of public had a fun day taking photos with the snake, wearing the Songkok and trying their hands on lantern painting.

On the other side of the mall square, the dry dragon boat race continued to be one of the highlights of the carnival, seeing participants from the different ethnic groups competing in the races.
