The 2025 edition of River Hongbao was held from 27 January to 5 February at Gardens by the Bay. The 10-day event attracted approximately 1.03 million visitors, captivating them with lively programmes and an immersive celebration that blended energy with rich traditional charm.

In celebration of Singapore’s 60th year of independence, this year’s River Hongbao specially incorporated SG60-themed elements. The opening ceremony showcased an exclusive lighting of 60 firecrackers, orchestrated by the organising committee. Towering SG60-themed lanterns adorned the venue, with one of the most striking lanterns being “The Lion City” which featured the Merdeka Lion. This design not only highlight Singapore’s spirit of independence but also reflects the nation’s prosperity and social cohesion.

The performances across the ten nights were a sensory delight, captivating the audience with a blend of sight and sound. From traditional music and Chinese dance to Malay dance, and modern hits, the diverse performances by various ethnic groups showcased Singapore’s rich multiculturalism and inclusivity.Local young talents such as Amni Musfirah and Shigga Shay performed “I Wanna Dance with Somebody”, “Ye Lai Xiang” and “What You Gon Do” respectively, while local renowned director Jack Neo, along with the cast of his latest film “I Want To Be Boss”, also graced the stage. The event was further elevated by performances from iconic artists, Getai singers, Xinyao singers performed, injecting a dazzling brilliance to River Hongbao 2025.  

The nightly performances captivated audiences in different forms, offering a sensory feast for the audience.  

The event also featured many booths, including the RHBHacks exhibition area. Showcasing the innovative creations of the top 4 winning teams from the River Hongbao Hackathon 2025.The RHBHacks booths highlighted youth-driven entrepreneurship inspired by the theme “Celebrating SG60: Innovating for Social Good”. Beyond fostering innovation, the RHBHacks booths provided a platform to give back, embodying SG60’s “Care for Others” focus. 70% of each team’s proceeds were donated to IPC-registered charities, amplifying the festive spirit of giving.

This year’s exhibition, “Greetings from Afar: Chinese Remittance Letters”, is jointly organised by the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall (Singapore) and Fujian Provincial Archives of China. This exhibition showcases the Chinese remittance letters of 20th Century, offering a glimpse into the lives and traditions of early Chinese immigrants in Singapore. To enhance visitor’s experience for visitors, 23 student volunteers from Ngee Ann Polytechnic provided guided tours, sharing insights into the historical and cultural significance behind the stories of early Chinese immigrants. Their expertise helped visitors forge a deeper understanding and connection to this pivotal aspect of Singapore’s heritage.

In keeping with the theme of giving and sharing prosperity, River Hongbao featured the “Wishing Heart” lantern display.  Visitors were invited to toss coins and make heartfelt wishes for the year ahead, with all proceeds going to Viriya Community Services (VCS) to support individuals and families in need.

The food street and various amusement attractions added a vibrant atmosphere of fun and nostalgia. One of the event’s highlights was Singapore’s unique double-decker carousel which attracted eager visitors. Classic carnival games provided joy for both adults and children, creating unforgettable memories for families. Additionally, calligraphers from Life Art Society and the two-hour nightly lantern riddles session drew many participants. Through these interactive activities, everyone experienced the charm of traditional culture, further enhancing the festive atmosphere.
