On 12 January, Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations (SFCCA) organised a volunteering event at Society for the Aged Sick. This event intended to promote social cohesion and bring warmth as well as spread festive cheer to the elderly through encouraging locals and foreigners to volunteer together. Around 45 volunteers, including members of clan associations, new immigrants and foreigners participated enthusiastically. Through their active participation, everyone gathered and created a joyful and heartwarming afternoon with the elderly residents. 

The elderly immersed themselves in the activities thoughtfully planned by SFCCA. 

The elderly and volunteers worked together to create festive decorations, strengthening their bonds while enhancing the festive spring atmosphere of the nursing home. This year, SFCCA also organised a series of special performances including Lunar New Year songs, dances and lion dance. The entire afternoon was filled with laughter and the elderly were fully immersed in the lively spirit of celebrating the past and welcoming the new year. At the end of the event, everyone shared a meal, fostering communication and understanding among each other.

In addition, SFCCA presented each elderly resident a pair of mandarin oranges and a practical towel, symbolising warmth and good fortune for the year ahead. To show appreciation for the dedicated staff at the nursing home, SFCCA also gifted them a portable mini fan.

Since 2022, SFCCA has been organizing annual volunteer events to promote social cohesion. Each year focusing on different community groups. In 2022, the Federation supported children, in 2023 it focused on female teenagers, and this year the focus was on the elderly. 

During the event, Chairman of SFCCA Social Affairs Committee, Mr Lennon Tan shared, For this event, SFCCA carefully designed various interactive activities, such as festive decorations-making and bingo games, which fostered communication between the volunteers and the elderly, these activities also helped keep the elderly physically and mentally engaged. Through these efforts, we hope to further promote volunteerism and encourage more people to join in caring for the community, thereby fostering social harmony. 

The elderly relished the enjoyable moments, sharing laughter and fun together. 

The event was met with praise from participants, highlighting its meaningful social impact. SFCCA remains committed to supporting more communities, injecting vitality into the society and inspiring individuals across all sectors to unite through volunteerism in building a brighter future together. This event is also supported by National Integration Council, Singapore Clan Fund and Cultural Matching Fund.
