Since its opening ceremony in July, the Youth Sports Festival has organised a total of 5 sporting events: bowling, badminton, basketball, soccer and table tennis, which attracted over 1000 participants. This included participants from communities from other races and new immigrants. The number of participating teams increased by 20% this year as compared to last year, which shows that youths are more eager to take part in sports activities.

This year’s table tennis competition welcomed over 180 participants and a total of 28 teams, which included 11 teams from clan associations and 17 teams from the public. After exciting rounds of competing, the team from Singapore Chin Kang Huay Kuan emerged as the champion for the youth category, a team from the public won second place while the team from Shanghai Jiao Tong University Alumni Association (Singapore) came in third place. For junior category, the Singapore Hainan Hwee Kuan came in first place, followed by two teams from the public.

Participants gave their all, exhibiting extraordinary skills and tenacious fighting spirit.

There were many highlights in this year’s sports festival. SFCCA specially invited Darren Ong (national bowling player), Baihakki Khaizan (former national soccer player) and Ser Lin Qian (national table tennis player) to grace the competition, interact and share their experiences with the participants. Besides so, every sporting event has included “fun prizes, increasing the sense of involvement and enjoyment for the event. This is different from previous years when only bowling competition had this.

A meaningful point to note is that this is the first collaboration between the organising committee and the “Youth Interest Group” of SFCCA to co-organise its inaugural archery networking event and incorporate diverse forms of sports. Through this innovative way, SFCCA not only learnt about the youths’ interest in archery but also created a platform for like-minded youths to interact and grow together.
