Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations (SFCCA) held its 39th Annual General Meeting on Saturday, 14 September, during which the results of the second stage of its 18th Council Election were announced. A total of 150 representatives from 82 member associations attended.

SFCCA President, Mr Thomas Chua, presided over the meeting, where he reviewed the past year’s accomplishments and emphasized the Federation’s ongoing initiatives to promote cultural diversity and foster social cohesion. He highlighted SFCCA’s innovative programmes, such as the “Singapore, Our Homeland” experiential series, which kicked off with the theme ” A Coffee’s Tale” last year, garnering enthusiastic responses and showcasing Singapore’s diverse cultural heritage.

This year marks SFCCA’s triennial Council Election. The 18th Council Election, which began in March this year, follows a three-stage process. In the first stage, the seven Founder Members each nominated one representative to the new Council. The nominated representatives are: Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan President Mr Thomas Chua Kee Seng, Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan Immediate Past President cum Lifetime Honorary President Mr Chan Kian Kuan, Singapore Kwangtung Hui Kuan Vice-President Mr William Leong Sin Yuen, Nanyang Hakka Federation Immediate Past President Mr Ho Khiam Seng, The Singapore Hainan Hwee Kuan President Mr Francis Phua Kiah Mai, Sam Kiang Huay Kwan President Dr Lee Peng Shu, and Singapore Foochow Association Assistant Business and Economics Officer, Mr Wong Yuan Jun, Eldwin. Notably, Mr Wong Yuan Jun, Eldwin is the newly nominated representative from Singapore Foochow Association.

The second stage of the election was successfully completed today, with 20 candidates vying for 14 Council seats. Polling closed at 10am, and the results were announced during the meeting. Out of SFCCA’s 248 member associations, 230 were eligible to vote. The election saw a total of 132 ballots cast, including 11 invalid votes. Among the newly elected Council Members, there are two new faces, including Singapore Lam Ann Association President Neo Kah Kiat and Teo Ann Huay Kuan President Teo Hark Piang.

Following this, the 14 newly elected Council Members will join the seven Founder Members’ representatives, after which a maximum of 10 other persons will be co-opted by the end of September, forming a Council of no more than 31 members. The 18th Council will then elect its office bearers, including the President, Vice-Presidents, Secretary-General, Treasurer, and Executive Committee Chairmen.
