Sharing by SGTech Smart Nation Chapter Chairman Mr Anthony Ong
Mr Anthony Ong mentioned that Singapore has been rated the world’s smartest city for 3 years continuously (2019 – 2021). As a smart city, Smart Nation Singapore’s vision is to bring convenience to the people and build Singapore’s future through technology. At the same time, he also pointed out that technology is far beyond what the senior citizens can understand and grasp and that is a problem Singapore is facing. He expressed that this will be a direction that the government will improve and work towards, and a social problem that the government will have to solve. Mr Anthony Ong also emphasized that if a smart nation is to be fully implemented, it has to be constructed for the environment and centre around using technology to bring convenience to the society and letting corporations to bring benefits for the people.
Metaverse 3D Communication Technology Developer Mr Liu Jun Feng sharing
Mr Liu Jun Feng then explored the question on how to Metaverse can assist Singapore to work towards being a Smart City. He first used the Smart Airport example as an entry point to introduce Metaverse. He emphasized that data will be the most important information flow for a Smart City in the future. Hence, big data tracking will allow the Smart Airport to have full awareness of the overall surroundings, and viewing of the whole operation, allowing employees to solve any crisis. Such is the convenience Metaverse technology can bring. By just putting on 3D Glasses, you can “travel” to the Metaverse space (virtual space), realising an immersive real-time interconnection between Metaverse and the reality and the merge between virtual and reality.
As the two speakers were answering on how to prepare for the transition, Mr Anthony Ong mentioned that corporations should follow in real-time on government implementations and information and grasp the latest information. The public should not be intimidated by new technologies and should try to understand the usage of new technologies through different channels. Mr Liu Jun Feng added that the government and corporations have a greater responsibility to provide a better digital management system and better services.
