The National Day Rally 2024 Mandarin Dialogue successfully concluded on Thursday, 29 August. Organised by SFCCA and REACH, the event attracted close to 150 participants. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions revolved around Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s National Day Rally speech. This dialogue offered a valuable platform for the Chinese community to explore the implementation of national policies and their impact on society, further enhancing communication between the government and the public.
Mr Zhong emphasized the importance of the National Day Rally as one of Singapore’s most important nationwide speeches. In addition, he noted that this dialogue allowed the Chinese community to delve into government policies and contribute ideas for future development, such interactions also play a crucial role in strengthening social cohesion and national unity.
The dialogue focused on four key themes: education, family, lifelong learning and employment, and housing. Following these group discussions, participants took part in a Q&A session with the Minister Chee Hong Tat and Member of Parliament Xie Yao Quan. Questions on issue such as employment for seniors and support for family policies were actively posed. Minister Chee responded comprehensively to issues concerning skills training, educational reform, and family policies.
In addition, Minister Chee explained that the “major reset” in our policies mentioned by the Prime Minister during the National Day Rally aims to ensure that Singapore’s policies remain current and relevant, helping citizens to achieve their aspirations. MP Mr Xie added that the policy is crucial for equipping Singapore to tackle future challenges and drive long-term national development.
This dialogue was rich in content, featuring thorough discussions, offering the public an important platform to engage in policy discourse and provide constructive feedback. It also fostered greater interaction and understanding between the government and citizens, building more consensus for Singapore’s future development.
