SFCCA held a closed-door dialogue session on “Global Developments Affecting Singapore” on 25th April 2022 (Monday), 7.30pm, at the SFCCA Multi-Purpose Hall@Level 1. The dialogue session was also SFCCA’s first exclusively offline major event since the beginning of the pandemic. Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Mr Teo Chee Hean was the Guest-of-Honour, whilst the Editor-in-Chief of SPH Media Limited Chinese Media Group Ms Lee Huay Leng was also invited as the moderator. Global issues such as the energy crisis in Ukraine and the COVID-19 pandemic were among the many topics discussed. Close to 120 participants, including leaders from 52 clan associations, attended the dialogue session. Simultaneous interpretation services were also provided to ensure information was conveyed accurately to all the participants.

SFCCA President Mr Thomas Chua mentioned in his opening speech that SFCCA serves as an effective bridge between the government and its people. This effective communication is also a manifestation of social cohesion, especially during complex and volatile times. As such, the basis of Singapore’s survival depends on the strong social cohesion.

During the session, many participants were concerned about the challenges that Singapore is facing. They also posed questions to SM Teo Chee Hean on his views regarding the current global issues.
