Welcome the Year of the Fire Horse

with a Vibrant Spring Reception 2026

SINGAPORE, 19 February 2026 – Close to 600 guests joined Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) and Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations (SFCCA) to usher in the Year of the Fire Horse at Spring Reception 2026, marking the 15th edition of this annual celebration.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Mr Gan Kim Yong was the Guest-of-Honour at the festive occasion. Also in attendance were distinguished members of the Cabinet and Parliament, including Minister for Defence Mr Chan Chun Sing and Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs Mr Edwin Tong; foreign dignitaries; community partners such as the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, representatives from Chinese clan associations; local arts and cultural groups; and members of other ethnic communities.

The celebration kicked off with an energetic festive drumming performance presented by three local arts and cultural groups – Drum Feng, NADI Singapura and the Singapore Dhol Squad. This was followed by a roaring lion dance performance featuring 26 lions performed by students from the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and the Singapore Institute of Technology. Guests also enjoyed live calligraphy demonstrations by calligraphers from the Life Art Society.

The programme then concluded with the customary Tuan Bai(团拜), where guests exchanged Chinese New Year greetings in a collective gesture of goodwill, wishing one another prosperity and a smooth year ahead.

In his speech, Mr Ng Siew Quan, Chairman of SCCC, highlighted the Centre’s achievements in 2025, including record numbers achieved for its visitorship, community outreach, programme and student participation; and the successful launch of its first Chinese Opera Festival in partnership with the National Arts Council. Chairman/SCCC also shared that SCCC will be refreshing its SINGAPO(ren) Permanent Exhibition from October 2026, and that the Centre will launch a special exhibition on local Chinese television from 1980s to early 2000s, and a travelling exhibition on Singapore’s zichar culture.

Mr Thomas Chua, President of SFCCA, shared that strengthening the capabilities of clan associations and nurturing a new generation of community leaders has been among the Federation’s key priorities. To support this, SFCCA has partnered with the Singapore University of Social Sciences to offer a series of customised training courses for its members, with more courses—including those on generative AI—planned. Participants who complete any three courses will also receive a Professional Certificate in Community Leadership in recognition of their learning achievements.

Mr Chua also highlighted the Chinese Community Leadership Programme (CCLP), jointly organised by SFCCA and the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The programme, which opened for nominations last December and closed on 30 January, received more than 120 nominations, with the inaugural run to commence in July.
