Speech by President of SFCCA Mr Thomas Chua
Mr Thomas Chua mentioned in his speech “We hope that these kind of activities allow everyone to deeply understand the cultural depth of the Duanwu Festival, while being immersed in a fun and light-hearted atmosphere, in the mean time forge stronger inter-generational bonds, and enjoy the company of our fellow clan members.”
This year’s carnival highlighted these themes: bringing together Singapore’s diverse communities, celebrating Chinese heritage, and marking the dual milestones of SG60 and SFCCA’s 40th anniversary. Activities were specially curated to reflect the spirit of unity and inclusiveness, featuring crowd favourites like the “Dumpling Dash” game and the newly launched “Dumplings Taste” Challenge, which saw enthusiastic participation from close to 50 teams, comprising participants from all walks of life. In particular, the “Dumpling Dash” game incorporated SG60 and SFCCA40 elements, aiming to reinforce a deeper appreciation for Singapore’s history and multicultural identity through interactive play. Meanwhile, the “Dumplings Taste” Challenge tested both palate and knowledge, offering both fun and an educational insight into the culinary diversity behind the Duan Wu Festival.

This year, ten food stalls set up by clans and ethnic groups showcased a rich array of traditional dumplings and festive treats. Street performers—including artists from different ethnic backgrounds and a talented nine-year-old pianist—took the stage with instrumental and vocal performances, highlighting the carnival’s inclusive and cross-generational appeal while adding to the lively ambiance.

This year marks the first collaboration with Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall. Such additional community resources brought more family-oriented activities designed to deepen appreciation for Duan Wu customs in fun and interactive ways. These programmes were warmly received by the public.

The carnival also hosted the awards ceremony for the “Children & Youth Online Art Contest”. A total of 389 entries were received from participants aged 4 to 16. With the theme “60 Years of Singapore, Jointly Celebrating SFCCA’s 40th Anniversary” the competition encouraged young artists to showcase their vision of Singapore’s vibrant landscape and highlight the rich contributions of Chinese culture to our nation.
Through this annual event, people from all backgrounds came together to experience the traditions of the Duan Wu Festival in a joyful, inclusive setting—fostering deeper understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture while building bridges across communities and enriching Singapore’s harmonious multicultural landscape.
