Encouraging the nation to share their observations, perceptions and insights of the new normal through the lens of the camera, the award ceremony of the “My Singapore New Norm” microfilm competition, co-organised by the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations (SFCCA), the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) and Lianhe Zaobao, was held on July 2 at 7.30pm at the SCCC. Mr. Chee Hong Tat, Senior Minister of State for Finance and Transport, officiated the award ceremony as the Guest of Honour. The evening ceremony was also simulcast live on the official website of the SFCCA, giving the public the opportunity to view the award ceremony live.
This is the fourth year that the organisers have joined hands to organise a microfilm competition with the theme “My Singapore New Norm”. 122 entries were submitted, reaching a record high, with 12 of them winning awards in the open, student and individual categories. Six of the microfilm entries were presented in dialects and Punjabi language.
In his speech, Dr. Zhou Zhaocheng, Chairman of the Youth Committee of the SFCCA and Co-Chairman of the “My Singapore New Norm” microfilm competition, said, “The theme of ‘The New Norm’ is to help people create or discover heart-warming stories to inject warmth into the society during these difficult times. I believe that in the process of making them, the participants have gained different insights about Singapore and the new normal.”
This year’s competition also saw two categories of “double winners”. The Gold Award in the Open Category went to “Worry from Home”, directed by Michael Chua, and the male lead, Christopher Yong, won the Best Actor Award for his superb performance. The Gold Award in the Student Category was awarded to “See The Colours Of The Sky” by Estella Zhang Qiming, whose work also won the Gold Award for “Most Popular Micro Film”.
The Singapore Online Video Award, which was open to public nominations, went to the music short film “The Caifan Song”. The song’s humorous lyrics and urban content attracted many people to watch it online. In terms of individual awards, Leo Ching Ling won the Best Director Award for “Go Home”, and the film “More than a metre” won the Most Creative Award.
